As part of the activities of FaReTra (Fair Remote Training), the way the Italian Association of Metallurgy redefines its commitment to spreading knowledge and keeping up to date with advancements the metallurgical sector, an online and synchronous Study Day will be held on November 27th on a very current topic: the application of Additive Manufacturing (AM, 3D printing of metallic and ceramic materials) to new materials.

HI.Lab’s contribution will be a work entitled:
The AM of Hard Metal: the challenge of thermodynamic equilibrium
drafted by Dr. Sandra Tedeschi and Dr. Gian Pietro De Gaudenzi of HI.Lab in collaboration with the group of the PoliMi Department of Mechanics coordinated by Prof. Nora Lecis.

Dr. De Gaudenzi will present an update on state-of-the-art 3D printing applied to Hard Metal. This topic has gotten keen attention in the sector due to the impact that it will have in the production of wear-resistant tools and components with complex geometries, not obtainable with traditional techniques.

The group of the PoliMi Department of Mechanics owns an Additive Manufacturing plant, of the Binder Jetting (BJ) type, with which studies are underway on the production of hard metal parts. HI.Lab actively collaborates in this project, bringing its know-how in the thermal processes of de-waxing and sintering. Prof. Lecis will present the preliminary results of the characterization of hard metal granulated powders for this particular type of AM.

Congratulations to the inter-disciplinary team: company and university united with the goal of disseminating the latest developments in application of processes focused on 3D printing Hard Metal, a strategic material for our economy.
